Next-Gen Promoters for Retinal Gene Therapy
- Validating Cell- and Stage-Specific Expression in Clinically Relevant Models
  - Presented by: Raghavi Sudharsan and Silvia Lourenco
  - Treating inherited retinal degeneration (IRD) with AAV gene therapy at advanced stages remains a major challenge. One limiting factor is the lack of promoters capable of driving specific and efficient gene expression after substantial photoreceptor loss. During Dr. Sudharsan’s talk, you will learn about groundbreaking research involving the identification and validation of novel compact promoters that retain strong photoreceptor activity even in degenerating retinas, offering a promising strategy to improve AAV-based therapies for late-stage inherited retinal diseases (IRDs).
